David Van Matre grew up in a military family which meant a lot of moving around. He was born in Austria and lived in Alabama, Illinois, New Mexico, Oklahoma, Texas, Germany, New York and Virginia. He graduated from Clemson University with a BS in Accounting. He has been married to Angie for more than 30 years, and has two children – Jason and Megan. He likes to be outdoors whenever possible.
David began his accounting work with a paper general ledger which necessitated a true balancing of the general ledger. His prior work experience was in the manufacturing arena but thought the change to a service based industry within the hospitality umbrella was a good switch. So far it has presented many challenges as well as a learning curve for the related peculiarities.
What the future holds is anyone’s guess. We are evolving towards continuous feedback on the related “stats” of each of our hotels. We continue to work towards improving their occupancy and their average daily rates; despite the competition and economic restraints which seem to influence us every day.
